This week, our focus was on our sense of HEARING and how sound can inform our sense of movement in our bodies and in our art making! The room was set up with two new centers: Sound Creation Center and a Listening and Visual Planning Center. I also continued to provide the Projector Center and Light Table Centers from last week's lesson. We explored the differences between upbeat, mellow, and electronic music and learned about an artist, Melissa McCracken, who has synesthesia and can see colors that relate to different sounds she hears. We created drawings and paintings using movements inspired by various playlists of music.
Take the lesson home!
- Practice creating a variety of lines at home using different thicknesses, colors and forming different shapes. If those lines had a sound what sound would they make? How can you move your body to mimic the sound and directions the lines go?
- What objects in your house make sound? What sounds do they make? Create and instrument
